Opportunity Title Pond Study Leader Internship

Description
Staff our Critter Quest pond study station during school nature walks.

Set up and take down equipment, explain pond study guidelines to groups of 15-25 kids, assist with macroinvertebrate identification, and maintain a safe exploring environment.

-Help plan and run fall special events as needed

-Assist with fall classroom visits in November and December

-Help with administrative tasks and program deve

Types of Work

Dates and Times when volunteers are most needed
Late September through December, nine-noon or noon-2. Exact days are flexible.
Minimum Commitment Level Ten Weeks (One Quarter)
Limitations or Restrictions Previous experience working with kids k-5th, background in water ecology, knowledge of macroinvertebrates, flexible with rain or sunshine. Required training sessions cover pond study, teaching skills, and safety. Additional trainings required for leading nature walks are also available, but not required for this internship. Training sessions are offered on both weekday mornings and weekends for scheduling flexibility. Interns must attend required training sessions in September. Training for classroom visits will be held later in the fall.

Mission
Nearby Nature is a non-profit education group dedicated to fostering appreciation of nature nearby and providing tools for ecological living. Nearby Nature's staff and volunteers lead nature walks, host school programs, work on environmental restoration projects, offer special events, and teach summer daycamps in local parks and natural areas. Nearby Nature also serves as the City of Eugene's Park Host in Alton Baker Park and teaches classes for the Network Charter School.
