Opportunity Title School Garden Volunteer

Theme
Climate Change and Sustainability

Description
Help us work with local schools to create opportunities for students to plant, harvest and eat healthy veggies from school gardens! Our staff visits ten schools each week to lead 1 hour garden sessions. The more volunteers we have present, the more we can do with the students!

Each garden session includes a short lesson, garden work/activity, and a harvest/tasting component. On a typical day, students might learn about and search for common beneficial garden insects, then divide into groups to turn the compost pile, plant vegetable starts, and pull weeds. The session ends with a taste test of several varieties of tomatoes grown in the garden.
